Surgery Update

September 26, 2007

So.. surgery went well.. for both myself and my dog. I felt great even the first day out; it took me about 3 weeks to feel this good after my first surgery. At any rate, it was probably the best case scenario. My ACL didn’t need to be completely reconstructed again, and they didn’t need to remove my whole meniscus, just a third of it. They also removed a cyclops lesion and some hardware (courtesy of Jackson Hole Hospital–see below) from the last surgery that was giving me some issues. It’s been about 5 days and I can already motor around the house without crutches. If I need to go a long ways, or anywhere quickly, for that matter, I will still use the crutches for a while longer.
I’ve been entirely useless and helpless for the better part of a week, and I think I have even enjoyed it. However, now that I have caught up on the entire last season of Grey’s Anatomy via abc.com, I think it may be time to get off the couch and become a productive member or society again.
I have posted some pictures below (quality: not so good. The flash on my camera is broken). They are not for the weak-stomached kind, or so I have been told.

These used to be in my leg. I was told that the longest part of the surgery was trying to pry these out of my tibia. Notice the barbs on the outside edges.

The long incision is where they removed those staples from. The others are arthroscopy incisions. Not quite identifiable as a human knee yet. This was taken on day 2; the only difference now is that it is black and blue all over.

Oh yeah, and my dog is just fine. I don’t even think the surgery phased her (it?). I was hoping it would leave her a little more docile for me… not so much.
